The design of technology
Since its beginnings, Formula 1 has established itself as the NASA of the automotive world – a kind of research and development department for the motor industry. Now as then, Formula 1 single-seaters are true laboratories in which new technologies are conceived, implemented, tested and perfected. Some of these innovations have had only a brief life within the sport, since Formula 1 regulations are constantly updated to balance performance and reliability with other concerns, including driver safety and the spectacle offered to spectators. Yet almost all of them have eventually found industrial applications. On display is the Formula E brake caliper by Brembo, designed for one of the most advanced and sustainable competitions. Winner of the 2024 Compasso d’Oro, it embodies the distinctly Italian ability to unite creativity, design and technology in the creation of products that are not only highly functional, but also expressions of fascination and beauty.
